Eyebags and heavy eyelids are among the most common concerns patients bring to consultation — and one of the most impactful to address. The eye area is often the first place to show the signs of ageing, and changes here can make the whole face look more tired, older or less well than it actually is.
Eyebags — the puffiness or fullness beneath the eye — can be caused by several distinct factors. Fluid retention causes temporary puffiness that tends to be worse in the morning. Fat pad prolapse — where the fat that naturally cushions the eye socket pushes forward with age — creates a more permanent fullness that does not resolve with rest. Hollowing beneath the bag, caused by volume loss in the tear trough area, can make the bag appear more prominent by creating a shadow beneath it.
Heavy or hooded upper eyelids develop as the skin loses elasticity and the brow descends with age. This can make the eyes appear smaller and more tired, and in more significant cases can affect the field of vision.

The right approach depends on what is driving the concern.
