Dynamic Lines

Lines that move with you — and eventually stay.

Dynamic lines — sometimes called movement-related wrinkles — are caused by repeated facial muscle contractions. Every time you smile, frown, squint or raise your eyebrows, the overlying skin folds and creases. In youth, skin snaps back between expressions. Over time, as collagen and elastin decline, these repeated folds leave a permanent mark — lines that are visible even when the face is completely at rest.

The three most common areas are the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. They can also appear around the mouth, across the nose, and in other areas of the face.

Several factors influence how quickly dynamic lines develop. Smoking causes lines to appear earlier and more severely. Sun exposure accelerates skin ageing significantly — wearing a broad-spectrum SPF every day is one of the single most effective things you can do for your skin. A skincare regime containing retinol, peptides, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants helps maintain skin thickness and resilience, making it less susceptible to creasing with movement.

Treatments to consider.

Anti-wrinkle injections are the first and best recommendation for dynamic lines. Botulinum toxin is injected precisely into the muscles responsible for the lines, temporarily relaxing them and preventing the contractions that create and deepen wrinkles. Results typically last three to four months and it works particularly well for forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet.

For deeper creases that remain even after anti-wrinkle treatment, dermal fillers can smooth and soften the residual line. Skin boosters improve skin quality and resilience, making skin less prone to creasing. Microneedling and Tixel® stimulate collagen remodelling and improve skin thickness over a course of treatments.
